Windows VPS or Linux VPS

It is thought to be an unusual combination but it has the main advantage that it can host on either Windows VPS or Linux servers. A few hosting companies offer unlimited traffic and it is  surprising that their Windows VPS hosting is based on Windows 2008 R2 and is cheaper than Linux. It is usually opposite with Linux hosting being cheaper.

Windows VPS hosting which costs only 2GB of ram, 100GB of disk and unlimited traffic. You can take it as a Windows PC with a 100 M bit connection to internet.

Although with configured shared hosting servers of cpanel to play with a Cobalt server (Linux), VPS stands for Virtual Private Server, it is a dedicated server except that it is a virtualized chunk of a big PC rather than an actual PC but to someone who access it from a Terminal Service it is impossible to say that it is not real.

VPS are normally available in about half the price of any dedicated server also you can rent them  monthly and if you need more ram, cpus etc. then changing of plans are very easy.

Accessing the Windows VPS Server

As a web interface which is Plesk, you can remote in using Windows Remote Desktop. This lets you access the VPS as if you sat it. Being a 22 ms ping time (the time it takes for a message to get from your PC to the server) from you, it gives the feeling as if it’s locally networked.

Many Windows VPS servers on the internet scare some bit as Windows had the reputation of insecurity but that was the past and now this one comes well protected with firewall, a or v and all sorts. One thing is best with a VPS that you are in charge of doing everything, apart from looking after the hardware that it runs on. Also it comes with Plesk that can configure up to ten websites for instance for customers.

The Internet is a Hostile Environment

If you have the latest version of any internet facing software installed, there are such tools available that let other people scan your site and look for vulnerabilities, particularly 0-day exploits in old versions that might not been patched. Don’t become a security expert yourself, rely on the experts. Plesk can manage many of these aspects, including rebooting the server and showing the state of the firewall etc.

Which .NET version to use?

Windows 2008 R2 has come up with .NET 3.5 which is quite good but you must prefer .NET 4 for the software development. And luckily it installs alongside .NET 3.5 so visit to Microsoft’s download site and it will installed fine.
